The California State Library is part of the merit-based California Civil Service Selection System, which is a two-phase process: examinations and hiring. You become eligible to work for the state when you pass an Open Examination. After becoming eligible to work for the state, or if you are a current or former state employee with eligibility in a classification, you can apply for a job at the California State Library in that classification.
