Planning and Policies
- California Department of Education’s Nutrition Services Division: administers the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Child Nutrition Programs and the Food Distribution Program in California.
- Food Research and Action Center Summer Nutrition Programs: includes policies and resources on beginning and preparing for Summer Meals nationwide. Includes Conference Call and Webinar Recordings.
- USDA Non-Congregate Summer Meal Service in Rural Areas
- Share Our Strength: No Kid Hungry Campaign Summer Meals: has resources on starting a meal site, promoting, planning Summer lunches. As well as plans on how to launch mobile and year-round lunches. Includes recorded webinars highlighting best practices for summer meals.
- Summer Matters: statewide campaign focused on creating and expanding access to high-quality summer learning opportunities for all California students.
- The USDA website includes links to information on how libraries can get involved in summer meals, SFSP resources including an SFSP handbooks and webinar recordings.
- USDA Capacity Builder: allows users to visualize “layers” of information to identify location for new sites and partners.
Find a Site App
- CA Meals for Kids Mobile app: The CA Meals for Kids mobile application helps you find nearby California Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs Sites through your iOS, Android, or Microsoft devices. The Emergency Meal Sites section may be used during unanticipated school closures due to emergency situations.

- USDA ChooseMyPlate: activities, games, and resources.
- USDA Summer Food, Summer Moves Resource Kit: Hands-on resource kit including activity guide, posters, flyers, placemat recipes, and other resources.
