CRB Quick Hits
The California Research Bureau (CRB) plays a unique role in the policymaking process. Our primary work is providing confidential, non-partisan research to the Governor’s Office and the Legislature. While our commitment to confidentiality is among our greatest strengths, it also presents a challenge in that a majority of the gubernatorial and legislative staff are not aware of the wide range of services we are able to provide.
In an effort to remedy this situation, we are rolling out CRB Quick Hits, a page dedicated to showcasing tools, capabilities, and insights that CRB has developed. Some articles may share a tool developed at the request of a legislative office or the Governor’s Office (which they agreed to make public). Others may provide broadly applicable insights gleaned from a more narrow request. In certain cases, we may seek to anticipate a widespread need when a high-profile policy issue is looming. In all cases, gubernatorial and legislative staff can expect the same thorough, unbiased work we provide for confidential requests. In providing these tools and insights publicly, we hope to advance a more transparent, equitable view of our services.
While CRB Quick Hits are intentionally brief, they come with the promise and the opportunity for our California policymakers and their staff to seek more in-depth answers on the questions raised, or to find inspiration for new applications for these tools that will support the Governor and the Legislature in developing better public policy for the people of California.
