Do you find it challenging to determine the needs, priorities, and interests of all of your community members, including those who don’t currently use the library?
Do you design data visualizations (for example, infographics, presentation slides, reports, etc.) and wonder how to apply an equity lens to these creations?
We’re excited to announce two cohort learning opportunities, running between November 2024 and May 2025, for California public library workers seeking to gain knowledge and skills conducting culturally relevant needs assessments and for those who want to create data visualizations that are equitable and inclusive.
Equitable Data Visualization Cohort
This cohort will be led by Alice Feng, Data Visualization Designer and Developer, and will equip participants with the skills and tools to create effective data visualizations that are equitable and inclusive. If your job responsibilities include working with quantitative data (for example, output data such as circulation and visits, demographic data, survey data, etc.) and/or conducting research/evaluation about internal or public facing topics in your library, then the Equitable Data Visualization cohort would be a good fit for you. Culturally Relevant Needs Assessment Cohort
This cohort will be led by Dr. Andrea Girón Mathern, the founder of Centrality Research, and participants will gain knowledge and tools to conduct a culturally relevant community needs assessment to identify community members’ needs, priorities, and interests. If you work in outreach, community engagement, public programs, or evaluating public programs and services, then the Culturally Relevant Needs Assessment cohort would be a good fit for you.
