About the Program
The online tutoring program ran from August of 2022 to August of 2024. The California State Library was able to partner with the Pacific Library Partnership to bring access to live, online tutoring to every k-12 student in the state. This tutoring was available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm, tutoring was available in 6 languages.
Aside from access to live tutors, the program also offered paper review, practice tests, online lessons and collaborative features like flashcards and virtual study rooms. The program was powered by Brainfuse’s HelpNow service, which staffs degreed, and background checked educators to assist learners in meeting their educational goals.
The program was complaint with California’s Student Data Privacy Alliance and users did not need to have a library card or PIN to be able to access the service. Anyone with an internet connected device inside of California could connect live with a tutor.

95% of students who answered the survey questions were satisfied with their tutoring session and 94% said that the service helped them improve their grades.
