Library Services and Technology Act

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) distributes funds to state library administrative agencies in all 50 states. Funds are allocated annually using a population based formula. The funds support the purposes and priorities of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

The California State Library distributes the LSTA funds through grant opportunities to eligible California libraries and nonprofit organizations supporting libraries, such as Friends groups and library cooperative systems.

In addition to the competitive grant opportunities, California libraries have access to LSTA-funded statewide programs and initiatives and electronic resources.
