Executive Orders and Proclamations

Use the California State Library’s interactive tool to search for executive orders and proclamations from every governor since California became a state in 1850. Recent gubernatorial documents are added to this database within two months of being issued, while the Governor’s website contains the most current executive orders and proclamations. Proclamations from 1991 to November 2003 are not currently available, but we hope to add them in the coming months. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please Ask a Librarian for assistance.

The signed originals of all executive orders and proclamations are housed at the California State Archives, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. The California State Archives are located at 1020 O Street in Sacramento.
